Launched on 26 September 2023, our Central London Washroom Design Hub represents a defining milestone for Dolphin Solutions. The project was developed to create a fully operational studio that brings commercial washroom design to life in a practical and engaging way.
Our aim was to build a space that reflects how commercial washroom products perform in real settings, while also providing a collaborative atmosphere for architects, designers and consultants to explore ideas and solutions together.

The vision for the Washroom Design Hub was to reflect the Dolphin brand while aligning with the design language of our Robertsbridge head office.
A key objective was to display as many fully operational washroom products as possible within a limited footprint. This included taps, soap dispensers, hand dryers, paper towel dispensers, accessories, grab rails, door hardware, toilet roll holders, combination units, washbasins, showers, Alavo Solo, and the Alavo Behind Mirror System.
The Washroom Design Hub was also designed as a working environment where architects and designers could attend workshops, test products in use and collaborate directly with our team on live projects.
The primary challenge was integrating almost 200 washroom products into a single cohesive space without compromising flow, usability or visual clarity.
We also needed to ensure the layout felt intuitive and easy to navigate, allowing visitors to move naturally between different product zones.
Alongside this, careful consideration was required to balance creative ambition with budget constraints, ensuring every design decision added value to the final outcome.

The Design Approach
The design evolved through a series of iterative stages, with each revision refining the balance between aesthetics, functionality and cost efficiency.
Product placement was carefully considered to ensure accessibility while maintaining a structured and logical layout. The result is a Washroom Design Hub that supports both independent exploration and guided discussion.
Material choices, spatial planning and resource allocation were continuously reviewed to ensure the final space delivered against both practical and design objectives.

Key Features of the Design Hub
- Fully working Superloo, showers, and Doc M washroom layouts
- Alavo Solo and Alavo Behind Mirror System in full operation
- 24 operational sensor tap and soap dispenser installations
- Extensive washroom accessory displays
- HI MACS solid surface throughout key architectural elements
A Better Way to Make Decisions

The Washroom Design Hub provides a functional setting that supports clearer specification decisions and greater confidence in product selection.
A central feature of the Washroom Design Hub is the fully operational Alavo Behind Mirror System.
This installation demonstrates how taps, soap dispensers and accessories can be integrated behind a single mirrored surface, supporting both efficiency and design clarity.
All components are active, allowing visitors to interact with the system and understand its functionality in real time.
The Washroom Design Hub showcases a wide range of special finishes and coatings, including stainless steel, polyester powder coating, ceramic and physical vapour deposition.
These materials are displayed in real working environments, allowing comparison of appearance, durability and suitability for different project types.
HI MACS solid surface is also used extensively throughout the Design Hub, extending into architectural surfaces to create a consistent design intent.
The Alavo system is SMART ready, with ongoing development to connect key products to the Dolphin SMART Cloud.
Once integrated, the system will demonstrate how connected washroom technology can help monitor usage, reduce water consumption and improve energy efficiency.
This supports more data informed and sustainable commercial washroom design.
Sustainability has been embedded throughout the Washroom Design Hub and specification.
Sensor taps, cartridge foam soap systems and motion activated lighting reduce unnecessary water and energy use, while touch free soap dispensers support efficient operation.
The Central London location reduces travel requirements for visiting architects and designers, helping to lower carbon impact. Natural planting has also been introduced throughout the studio to enhance the environment.
The Washroom Design Hub functions as both a technical workspace and a collaborative meeting environment.
It includes video conferencing facilities, a large presentation screen and a soundproof booth for focused work or private discussions.
The HI MACS conference table features wireless charging, while the kitchen area includes premium finishes, a Quooker tap and coffee facilities to support washroom workshops and meetings.
The Project Outcome
The completed Washroom Design Hub successfully delivers against the original brief while remaining aligned with budget expectations.
The space provides a fully operational environment that supports product understanding, specification confidence and collaborative working.
Feedback from visitors has been consistently positive, particularly around the ability to see products in use and understand how systems perform in real applications.
Seeing everything working in real life completely changes how we approach specification.
